The journey of RMC begins long before a mixer truck arrives at a job site. It starts inside a highly specialized facility known as a Concrete Batching Plant. The production process follows strict engineering sequences to guarantee a reliable product.

Step 1: Storage and Conditioning of Raw Materials
Aggregates are kept in large overhead storage bins separated by size, while cement is stored in moisture sealed vertical silos to prevent premature hydration. Water is held in temperature regulated tanks, and liquid chemical admixtures are kept in specialized containers.
Step 2: Computerized Weigh Batching
When an order is placed, an engineer inputs the specific mix design code into the plant’s operating software. The automated system then uses high precision electronic weigh scales (load cells) to measure out the exact kilograms of cement, sand, gravel, and water required. This precision is virtually impossible to duplicate using manual, volume based bucket measurements on a job site.
Step 3: Mixing Methods
Depending on the configuration of the plant, RMC is produced using one of two primary methods:
- Dry Batch Plants: The plant measures all the dry ingredients (cement, aggregates) and drops them directly into the drum of a transit mixer truck. The water and liquid admixtures are added to the truck either at the plant or during transit. The truck drum rotates rapidly at “mixing speed” for about 70–100 revolutions to blend the concrete on the road.
- Wet Batch (Central Mix) Plants: The plant contains a massive, permanent central mixing drum. All ingredients including water are thoroughly mixed inside this industrial mixer before being discharged into the truck. The transit mixer truck then acts primarily as an agitator, turning its drum slowly just to keep the pre mixed concrete from settling or segregating during travel.
